>What does BLACK mean to you?

So I woke up today feeling a little frustrated and maybe even a little confused, so much to do so little time. I was looking through my closet and decided to wear all black (except for my accessories) and as I walked outside I started to think, Why is black viewed so much as a color for some what upset or “tortured inside” or someone who’s mourning.
Out of curiosity I went online to see what I found for definitions and found I the following:

*Black is the absence of color.
*Considered the negation of color, black is conservative. It can be serious and conventional. The color black can also be mysterious, sexy, and sophisticated.
*Black is the color of mourning.
*Among young people, black is often seen as a color of rebellion.
*Black is both positive and negative.
*In early Westerns the good guy wore white while the bad guy wore black.
*Native Americans thought black was good because it was the color of soil, which gives life.

I was actually surprised at some of the things I was reading. I honestly think black is very misunderstood. Whats is black in Fashion? A way to look slimmer, elegant, every girl always has her “little black dress” right? Hard Core? I guess to everyone it means something different. You always have Gothic Lolita Fashion real popular in Japan and fully loaded with black.

There was a big influence in the 30’s when Chanel brought its little black dress to its fashion house. Black was seen as high class in Paris and London and it started gaining acceptance. In the 60’s black became the favored color of artist, intellectuals, protesters, poets, this was more of a rebel Bohemian black(they loved turtle necks) different from the 30’s which was for elegance.

Some people believe colors have emotional meanings, some will claim to wear black because its slimming, Me personally I think it happens to work in many ways. I wear it when I’m moody and I wear it when I feel elegant as well. A little back dress is perfect when you want to make colorful shoes pop.

Karl Lagerfeld once said:
“There’s no Chanel collection without black. (It) will never exist. Who can live without some black clothes.”

I agree. Its a classic. I think I might be writing this because when I was younger I used to get asked why I wore so much black as if i did something wrong haha funny to think about.

Coco Chanel in her signature black dress. I think she had so much influence for black being fashionable.
John Lennon and his wife. Considered smart, artsy, and was always participating in anti-war protest which made people look at him like a rebel.
I bumped into this picture on google images. A good example of how black is mysterious and elegant.
Gothic Lolita. Big in Japanese culture and cosplay.
The rock band KISS. Always wear black with studs, known to be hardcore.

In the top photos I was wearing:

gla.MAR.ous black top (open midway in the back)

Zipper leggings from Bebe

Gladiators from square one

Belt from Forever 21
